Scrum
Nicholas Adams

Last year we worked on implementing the Scrum technique for managing tasks at the Makerspace. Due to COVID it has had limited use. Here is an updated instructional on how to use the Scrumboar at the Makerspace. I will be making a further effort in addressing it at Members Meetings and updating tasks and progress here.

If you have new Backlog Items or would like to take on "Project Owner" feel free to post here and I will attempt on keeping it up to date. This is also a great place to ask for and offer help or resources.

Scrum Board

Scrum is a project management tool used by businesses and organizations of all kinds around the world to track progress and achieve goals.  It uses a board to track a backlog of tasks and then tackle them in a set period of time called a sprint.

Kamloops Makerspace will work in one month sprints with tasks from the "Backlog" being chosen at either the members meeting by those present to be moved into the "To Do" category.

From the "To Do" column a person chooses to become a "Project Owner" by putting their name and contact info on the sticky note and moving it to "In Progress".  They are now the coordinator of that item and the best person to contact about helping bring it to completion.  "Project Owners" are not to be assigned without the express consent of the project owner.

When the project is completely finished it may then be moved to the "Done" category by the "Project Owner".  At the next meeting at the end of the sprint any items that have not been completed will be discussed as to what happened and how to fix it.  Then new items will be picked from the "Backlog" for the next sprint.

Anyone can add items to the "Backlog" by noting it on the top of a sticky and adding it to the "Backlog" category at any time.  They are then chosen by the group present at the beginning of the next sprint.  Items are not to be moved from the "Backlog" at any other time.

Spamming, harassing or inappropriate backlog items will be removed by a board member.  Backlog Items should be achievable in one sprint.  If it will take longer than one month it should be broken down into multiple Items.  Items only move from the "Backlog" into "To Do" at a Members Meeting.  Please don’t move items that are not yours.

Please take a look at the "To Do" Items and consider becoming a "Project Owner".  If you are unable to coordinate a task please consider contacting a "Project Owner" and assisting them.  You may not volunteer someone else to be a "Project Owner".  Please don’t ask "Project Owners" when their project is going to be done, unless you are willing to help them.

Kamloops Makerspace’s original tagline was Two Rivers, Many Hands.  As you know many hands make light work.  Every member regardless of time spent, resources, or skill set  are integral to the success of our amazing makerspace.  Please join us in making it even better!
