The Hack Space & Electronics

High voltage question
Krankin

We have had someone approach the makerspace with a question about an electronics problem he is having. He was unable to post on the forum himself, so I have copied his question below.

“I’m a retired engineer that didn’t pay enough attention to the classes on power application.

A recent project has me try to control a higher amperage circuit (car window motor?) from a very low amperage supply from a small solar panel. It also has to be bi-directional.

Thanks for any help.

Biggest concern is the capacity of the solar panel. You want to have some sort of energy storage to be able to power the motor: something like a battery or perhaps a capacitor. As far as being able to go forward or backwards all that is needed is to reverse the wires on the motor with a switch. Double pole double throw with center off switch is recommended. Princess auto sells it Here.Princess auto also sells a remote control unit that does that Here.
