Craftorium overhaul

Craftorium Update!

I will not be there to help move, but I did go through the craftorium and pulled out pretty much everything I thought was worth keeping. I was fairly generous, becasue there is always a second cull as things get moved in. Notable Keeps include:

Two domestic sewing machines,

serger

knitting machine to either set up or sell on market place after we fail to make it work (it's un-used, and has the manual)

a bunch of things in totes - and extra totes

leather working stuff, leather,

a selection of thread.

irons, heatgun, ironing boards

the light table and screen printing exposer/screens

embroidery hoops (plenty) and some threads

Acrylic paints and brushes.

Hi Amanda,

Thanks for your work in the arts and textiles room!

I saw your notes and addressed what I could, such as resurfacing the table, getting rid of the rolling cart, stowing the light table and hot wire.

The bottom rack of the drying rack has a set of clay tiles that are former member MARIE's - perhaps a Borg Member has a contact for Marie? They are a nice set of tiles and she very well may want them. That is her nice bisque pottery thrown pots on the shelf above the closet at the end of the hall, as well.

The black surfaced table is a cutting and premasking table for computer cut vinyl; the strips of premask stuck to the wall are just frugal savings that allow a quick line of lettering to be premasked. Not essential - if you want to refresh that wall, they can go.

I also cleaned the hall outside the door and did a big dump run for the space.

Thanks again for breathing some life into that room - Ill keep stopping in to see if the whiteboard list has anything I can do on it.

Cheers

There's a drying rack in the craftorium with the tail ends of some projects on it. None are labeled afaik.

If they're precious to anyone let me know, I've given them notice so the rack can be cleaned

Hello Amanda! Firstly, you are amazing!! Secondly, someone may have already told you this as you seem to embody the spirit of it already, but just in case, the Makerspace is a “do”reaucracy and member driven. So, thank you for stepping up and taking initiative to make this space your own. I don’t have all the answers for you, but some guidelines we’ve talked about is 1. Any changes do not actually impact the foundational building and 2. It can easily be undone within a couple of hours if needed by another member. Other than fly at it! Excited to see how it turns out 😁

Hi! I'm pretty keen to make the craftorium clean and closer to the photos on the website.

I spent a hot second making a list of where to start, and it was an absolute snowball of questions. I'll start a seperate thread for sewing machine intel, because those are complicated.

But mostly about the space,

Things I want to change to make it more appealing

1) it's hella dirty.

2) the machines need dust covers

3) the commercial irons are not set up, and therefore just wasting space.

4) there's a bunch of stuff that seems like it's just been left there.

And most importantly,

5) it's not a place where I could just walk in, and start working on a project, and I suspect that's a barrier to use.

With those points in mind, I'm going to start making it better.

I've left my list of questions on the industrial machine, but here's a picture of it if anyone has answers.

Also, if there's a weekday evening that works best for folks to help out let me know!
