Lathe Repairs
Andrew Buchner

Jim and I have been working on the wood lathe, and are waiting on a few parts to arrive next week. We have elected to leave the head stock disassembled for now, and if the parts fit we'll have it back together by next weekend.

In the interim, I have loaned the Space my personal lathe. Its bolted to the bench, but an 8ft board should be able to be cut on the mitre saw without it intruding. If space is needed, the wrench and socket I used to tighten it are on the bench as well. The operating manual and a chuck that fits the lathe are also there, all of our other tools on the wall can be used with it.

Yesterday, Jim and I were able to finish working on our lathe. The spindle bearings, speed lever, and pulley wheels have been replaced, the internals were greased, and the headstock repositioned. It now changes speeds as smoothly as from factory, and runs with less vibration and noise.
