I am planning a more complete post about the new IT infrastructure at the Makerspace. However, one exciting note is phase one of our RFID system is done. I would like to extend a huge thank you to Jim and KamIT for donating all the materials and equipment for our entire IT build-out, alongside providing a vast amount of information and advice to get it done. Jim has been a long-time supporter of Kamloops Makerspace including a lot of support leading up to opening the space over 8 years ago. Sponsors like KamIT make this space possible, so if you need IT services, please consider them.
This means we will be distributing key fobs to our members and eventually discontinuing the use of the door code. I hope to be there this Wednesday (depending on my work schedule) to start getting fobs out to members. This will be a fairly long rollout as this is a busy time of year for a lot of us. There will be due notice given to all members when a date is chosen to remove the door code. However, a key part of communication is listening so please ensure you are signed up for email notifications on the website and keep an eye on our Facebook for updates. More information about this rollout will be presented at our next members meeting on September 5th at 6 pm. Please note that times and dates for getting fobs will be posted and provided as much as possible. Please do not hound any volunteers or directors for special timing/consideration. Everyone is busy and trying to get this done as effectively as possible. Making this unpleasant for volunteers will halt this process.
Thank you all for your consideration in the next exciting step for our new Makerspace!
