Lessons for 3D Printing
Author Last Post

Hi Sam.

To get you started down the 3d printing path I'll outline some steps.

First step is you need a 3d model. You can find something cool at a free site like Thingiverse. https://www.thingiverse.com/ .

You can make your own model using 3d modeling software. Or you can use that software to modify an existing model. A program like Fusion360 is popular. https://www.autodesk.com/ca-en/products/fusion-360/personal . The idea is to be able to create an STL file.

Once you have a 3d model as an STL file, you need to slice it into gcode. The main program for doing that is called Slic3r. Its also free. We have a Prusa MK2.5 3d printer. You need to know what printer you are using when slicing. https://www.prusa3d.com/en/page/prusaslicer_424/

Once you have your gcode it needs to go onto an SD card. If you have one you can load the file and bring the card in. Or you can bring your laptop and we can transfer the file to our SD card.

We have our open house on Wednesdays from 6-9pm. Its called Hack Nite. You can drop in and print stuff or ask for advice. All free.

If you decide you want to become members of the makerspace you can fill out an application. The rate is $80 per month for an individual or $110 for a family. This gives you 24/7 access to the facilities.

Hello,

Myself and my 12 year old son are interested in learning the basics of 3D printing. Does anyone offer this type of service?

If so please email me (hello@sevan.ca) with rates and additional information.

Thank you,

Sam
