Pottery Room

Alternate uses for Kiln
Author Last Post

Hi,

I'm new around here, and was wanting to talk with whomever is in charge of the pottery kiln about the possibility of doing some not-exactly-pottery projects with it. Nothing immediate, just looking to get a sense of the costs involved (I assume I'd be paying for the electricity).

Specifically I'd like to investigate using the kiln for some glass slumping/fusing projects, and possibly for burning out lost-wax or lost-resin casting investment molds. The latter process would be essentially a ceramics project, but with a slower ramp and hold at ~100C to clear out the mold first.

Is this something that can be done in the Kiln, and if so, what would the likely costs be?
