I'll be posting more updates soon once we take delivery of the order and get the shops better stocked.

We'll be including suggested donation pricing as well as a comparison to what members will save on hardware vs if they walk into a big box store and buy small quantities of what they need.
Great news on this front!

Last night we approved an expenditure to purchase a wide variety of fasteners and are very excited to bring BC Fasteners & Tools on as a Makerspace sponsor who is selling us fasteners and sandpaper at a considerable discount.

Also of note today, Bill King donated 3 packages of vinyl cutter blades! Enough to change the blade once a month for two years. They go pretty fast (cheap chinese knockoffs; not the qulaity of the $50 Roland blades), so if the cutter isnt cutting nice, ask me or a board member for a freshy.
They are stored in the office.
Thanks, Bill!

I've got the stations all built up now to something I'm happy with. Some more time needed to organize miscellaneous materials we have lying around and fill up the fab shop bin with bolts.

I'm curious as to if anyone actually uses nails, or just screws? I didn't plan on finding so many nails lying around and they almost merit a second storage unit just for those in the woodshop.

It has a ways to go to get a nice organized panel and include the sandpaper but I made some progress tonight.

A whole bunch of scattered screws and nails have all been consolidated into two drawers in labled containers also.

I think the messaging around this initiative should be a positive thing.

"If you use more than a couple of parts, please consider donating a dollar or two so we can buy more"

Instead of "Each bolt costs $0.05, please pay when you use them"

None planned so far, please comment if some are requested.

Can we get bigger sheets of decal rolls that can be purchased? I'd gladly pay $5 for a sheet the size of a piece of paper. Can we buy a roll and portion it out? How much is a full roll of a single colour?

Design Lab consumables are:

14" premask (roll is attached to table) - we go through 2 or 3 rolls per year
vinyl cutter blades - 2-4 per year
1 and 2" tape - on going

We are low on hackable vinyl (we have used up all my extras, plus the scraps and roll ends I begged from local sign shops).
Intermediate 14" vinyl (suitable for interior use) is about $5/yard. High performance 14" vinyl is about $8/yard.

I have an vinyl order to make for a job I need to do soon - I could order 5 or 10 yards of basic colours for consumable?

Thanks for your work, Garret H!

Do Glazes count as consumables? They're about $20 per bottle and probably 10 bowls worth in each bottle (maybe more...?)

Garret H commented 05-09-2019

Glazes would probably be a good one too. Would bulk buys of glazes and refills save money?

Are we including glue in the list? It seems to be what I use the most in this shop

Garret H commented 05-09-2019

Yes we should add glue.
Either carry stock on a bunch of small bottles or use a big 4L jug for refills? Bulk jugs are a lot cheaper per liter but more hassle.

Various sizes of brad nails for the air nailer.

During the Member's Meeting this week Nicholas Adams outlined a request to add an area in each sop where small quantities of consumable (sandpaper, screws, etc) materials will be available for member use in exchange for a monetary donation.

Bulk supplies will be kept in a lockable cabinet, the available consumables will be in nice clearly labeled trays and such.

I'll be posting the preliminary list of consumable items per wood shop, please comment on what else you think should be in there.
