The Lounge

Air Conditioning
Author Last Post

Since the next week or so is going to be too hot for the swamp cooler to work (seriously, just use it for dry venting at night and keep it off during the day) I've brought in a portable AC and set it up in the lounge. Everyone is free to use it to escape the heat but there are several things you should know:

1-Make sure all the lounge windows and doors are closed. There is two hooks and a spring on the door to the hack room. Attach it to the hooks and it will pull the door shut on its own. You can unhook it again to hold the door open.

2-Turn it on early. It's a 9000BTU unit but if you turn it on late in the day it will never catch up before the sun sets. The building isn't all that well insulated.

3-KEEP THE SWAMP COOLER OFF. The unit will draft air from wherever it needs and it doesn't need more humidity in the air because...

4-Check the drain pan daily. On the back is a capped black hose. It's on the table because you can put a bucket underneath and drain it before the pan overflows and makes a mess. The higher the humidity, the faster it will fill up. Use the stove hood fan when cooking.

5-Set and forget. There's an 8-hour timer built-in so you can set the timer, turn it on and you don't have to remember to turn it off because it will do so on its own. You can also bypass this.

If you don't want AC it also has a fan high/low setting.
