The message prompting login could probably help if it pointed in that direction.

Questions on how to use the forum? Want to learn about 3D Design or 3D printing? Please ask me!

If you look at the sign up page when you are not logged in, there is a free forum member sign up to do exactally that. Has been there since the beggining. Perhaps we can find a way to make it more clear. I will make a Facebook post to let people know they can use the forum without being a member of the Makerspace.

Hello all,

I had a thought regarding the community, absence of in person hack nights and how to connect with people who aren't already members.

Many years ago before I was an official member I would lurk on the forums and ask questions about tools at the space or projects people would be working on. The great thing with doing that on the forum rather than the Facebook post is it meant that anyone could answer, so I was able to interact with the entire community and not just the few people who monitor the Facebook inbox.

Of course someone could learn a lot by attending Hack Night, but that isn't always workable with peoples schedules and especially isn't workable now with Covid restrictions.

So I was wondering can we create "guest" accounts that allow people to post on the forums without being a paying member? Tie that into the digital Hack Nights somehow? I don't think allowing anyone to register without going through some kind of filter would be good, as it would open the forums up to spam which has been a challenge in the past.

Any thoughts or ideas from anyone?
