Hexagon Skirt (English Paper Piecing)
Author Last Post

As yet another example of how versatile the laser cutter is, I use it to cut out the paper parts of my English paper piecing projects.

Usually I would have done the hand piecing at the Makerspace while sitting in the Lounge (probably on a Wednesday night). However, due to Covid, I did the piecing at home. All the paper was cut out on the laser cutter.

Just to clarify, I do not leave the paper in. I baste the fabric onto it, then remove the paper once I have locked each side in with a seam. The paper is only to keep the fabric the right shape while I hand stitch each seam. The visible running stitches are top stitches, intended to keep the hexagons in place so that they don't stretch or warp over time. Each hexagon edge is 3/4" (1 1/2" wide)

I won't go into great detail about English paper piecing because there are a ton of blogs/articles/youtube videos about it. This technique is usually used to make quilts, but it can easily be used as an embellishment on a garment.
